Office fun

So today things are kind of slow in the office, and I happen to look out the window and see this. My first thought is that a plane crashed there, (the office is right across the street from one of the runways at Dulles) but then if that were the case, I'm sure I'd have heard a big ol boom and be hearing about it on the radio. Now I'm moving to a new apartment next month and have been putting some of my stuff into some free space in a storage unit my dad has near work. Being gawdawful nearsighted, the smoke at first appears to be coming from the building where the storage unit is. Yikes. Changing to my distance glasses, I realize it's coming from somewhere beyond that, thank goodness. I don't need a bunch of my stuff all burnt up.

Looks like I'm going to some DoD briefing thing next month that I really don't want to go to. Since the assorted folks who'd normally go are going to be out on travel and stuff, it's been dumped on me. It's just some information thing for industry folk about future plans, and I've no idea what it'll be like. I'm expecting a real yawnfest. I just love being the fallback for stuff like this....not.

Gonna head up toward Baltimore tomorrow, I think, to spend a few hours at a hamfest up there with Ferian and/or Oryx. I'm hoping the vendor who has UPS batteries will be there. I want to get a couple more to bring an old ups back to life and to power my little HT with.
