The chair recognizes...
Nov. 17th, 2004 08:18 pmWhee. A chunk of the day was pretty much wasted at work, by something both boring and silly. Some coworkers had a meeting scheduled, with people coming in from another office, and an agency. The original plan was for it to not require any special accomodations, but, at the last minute, it was decided some sensitive stuff was going to be discussed. Unfortunately, the area they'd normally hold that was in use, so they had to hold it in a less secure conference room. No problem, really, except that one of the doors to that room doesn't lock. In order to hold the meeting, they needed someone to sit out in the hall, where both doors could be seen, and make sure nobody went in or tried to listen through the door. A member of the group holding the meeting, who didn't need to be in it, got that honor. But then, it turned out they needed him in there for a while. Guess who got volunteered to cover while he was in there off and on for a few hours...
Sitting in a chair, in a hallway, watching a couple doors is, to say the least, boring. It's very very boring, and the humorous comments from passers by get old after about the 20th one. Fortunately, the other guy wasn't in there for more than 90 minutes at a time.
