What should have been?
Jan. 12th, 2005 08:29 amI was born 3 weeks late. I also weighed nearly 10 pounds at birth. I was also born during a rare (for Maryland) big blizzard on the night that a fire burned down some barns at the Bowie race track. Heck, I even made the newspapers the day after I was born. They had to get a snowplow to clear the road so that the rescue squad and an ambulance could get my mother to the hospital for my appearance. Somewhere I've got some crumbly old pages from a local Bowie paper mentioning that little adventure and my mother claims it was also mentioned in the Washington Post, though I've never found it.
Anyhoo, as I was saying, I was born 3 weeks later than expected. That means that, technically, yesterday would've been my birthday if I'd arrived on schedule. I'm kind of glad it wasn't, since it would've meant a birthday present of coworkers being laid off, possible car problems, and the heat in my apartment not working. Whee.
At least there were a couple positive things. My finger is healing quickly. The joint is still a little sore and it's still a little tender, but the big ol scabs and bits of dead skin are starting to come off. Also, a late Christmas card and gift arrived in the mail. Thanks
shadowolf! I'm just glad it didn't vanish in the mail. Next time I move I have to double check to be sure I don't forget to give friends the new address.
I was thinking of taking off early today, so I could try to be around whenever the maintenance guy shows up to look at the heat, but it turns out there's a conference call near the end of the day, so I'll have to stick around for that. Owell. Should be saving up all the vacation time I can at this point.
