The overture from Wagner's Tannhauser is playing on the radio right now and I find that it's impossible for me to listen to it without being able to think only of the cartoon opera with Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny. Cartoons never made me think I could fly or fall off a cliff or survive having dynamite explode in my face, but they have affected how I react to opera.
