The Day

Yesterday was The Day. The trail rides were done, the gates were opened, and the first stampede onto the grass pasture began. There was much equine rejoicing. Followed by much eating of grass.

This year's first day on the grass wasn't as much of a show as it has been in the past, but the horses still did run around a lot. Most got down to the serious business of trying to find out just how much grass they could get into their stomachs. Amigo was the big show this year. He just couldn't stop and eat for very long without starting to trot and buck happily again.

I just had time to grab the digital camera and did a few video captures. I haven't downloaded 'em from the camera's card yet and dunno how good they'll turn out to be. most of the interesting action occurred down the hill a little ways, and that camera only has 3x optical zoom on it. I shoulda brought the one with 10x. If any of 'em look good, I'll upload them for others to see.

Fit to be tied

The tie I got to wear to the Derby next month has met with approval. Matter of fact, at least two other folk are now ordering the same one in other colors. So here's what I'll be wearing in KY:

It's nice to have a horse-y tie in my wardrobe again. The last one I had was worn so often that it had to be retired. When it comes to ties, I have an even worse time buying them than I do other clothes. I confess to having very limited fashion sense in general and when shopping for ties, I end up in a situation where I don't really know what I'm looking for, but I'll know it if I see it. Being fond of horses and photography, I knew of Muybridge's work. The avatar on this post is from one of his series. When I saw the ties made from his well-known horse photos, I knew that was what I was looking for.
