murakozi: (derby)
Over a week later, and I still haven't wrapped up the entries for last weekend.

Sunday morning we were up early again. A quick shower and we dressed for the trip up to Indianapolis. I'd thought the day was going to require just business casual type dress, but was told it was suit time again. Yuck. Fortunately nothing had been spilled on my suit the day before or anything like that. I'd only packed one undershirt though, so I I ended having to wear the dirty one from the previous day again. It wasn't all stinky or anything, but I still would've liked to have had a clean one.

The drive from Frankfort was a couple hours. As we approached Edinburgh, IN, there were signs for a Bose store at an outlet mall there. This past Christmas I was amazed to be given a Bose Wave radio/CD player by my dad, who now wanted one for himself. We were running a little early so we turned off, unsure as to whether they'd be open yet. They were. Now the Bose does put out some very nice sound and is really nifty, but it does have the drawback that it has NO controls on it whatsoever. Everything has to be done using the remote, which is only a little larger than a credit card and very easy to misplace. Since we were there, I asked whether they sold the remotes on their own and if so, how much they were. Expecting to be quoted much higher price, I was pleasantly surprised to learn they sell for $9.98. I got one to take home. Now I could play Dueling Remotes with the Bose with some future visitor. Back in the car, we continued to Indy.

We met up with my sister, her husband, and her inlaws for brunch. The food was excellent. There wasn't any asparagus in sight, so I guess it didn't qualify as 'fancy' though. We were seated on an outdoor patio so I apologized for being rude and put on a hat. Being of northern European descent and with red hair showing up off and on in both my parents' families, I normally only have 2 modes: vampire pale or sunburnt. The time at the track the day before had me in the latter category. The joys of thinning hair meant I also had some sunburn on my scalp. Ouch. Fortunately, some folks at a nearby table finished and we snagged the umbrella from it so ours could be fully shaded. Yay! No more rude wearing a hat at the table!

After brunch we went downtown for the graduation ceremonies. There's not much to tell about 'em. Those things are always pretty much the same. One of the speakers went on forever. It's amazing how long one can stretch out a speech that basically just says "Go forth, do good, make us proud."

My father had to be in Bowling Green for an early Monday meeting so I went home with lil sis. A quick change of clothes and the topic of dinner came up. I stated my requirements: had to be able to wear jeans and a tshirt and no asparagus. We walked a few blocks to a really good pizza place. Ahh real food. Back at their house, a box was found that I could pack my assorted swag in for mailing back to myself at home. We spent some time talking about this and that and playing with the cat, then it was off to bed for the first night of more than 6 hours sleep in a long time.

In the morning my sister dropped me at the airport and went to work. I spent some time talking to a Canadian couple who were heading home after seeing their son get his Masters at IU. Soon enough I was back in Baltimore and drove all the way back home. Katie expressed her displeasure at my absence but seemed to forgive me after many pets and scritches.

So there ya have it. 4 tiring days with some very high points and memories I'll treasure forever. The package of swag arrived on Wednesday. Maybe I'll lay it all out and take a picture.
