Sometimes it's the little things that are just so nifty.

Yesterday afternoon, I was driving home from work as usual. As I made the right from 28 onto Innovation, I spotted a large dark 'thing' to the right of the road in my peripheral vision. My first thought was "Dang, that's one f-ing big ugly goose." As I completed the turn and was able to actually see it properly, I realized it was a great big wild turkey.

Wild turkeys aren't uncommon, of course, but I'll admit I've never seen a 'real live' one before. I've only seen them from a distance. It seemed pretty darned big. The bird was walking toward the curb, but turned around and sauntered slowly back toward what's left of the undergrowth. I'm assuming it was a female since there was no big fanned tail ('course, it could've been a male who just wasn't displaying or something) and there didn't appear to be a beard or wattle, or whatever that thing is called under the beak.

Seeing wildlife alongside the road isn't too uncommon here in suburbia. I often see deer, raccoons, possum, etc along the road (or in the road dead). It was surprising to see a turkey, though, especially in the small patch of trees and grass between 28 and the toll road.

Anyway, I thought it was kinda nifty. Maybe you had to be there.
