New mare

The past two Sundays at the barn have been slow, quiet ones for the most part.  The school horses will return from their vactaion on Thursday and it'll be back to business as usual.

With only 14 horses still in the barn, only one person was needed to keep an eye on things.  I came in around noon, did hay, grain, and water around 2, and closed things down around 3.  The rest of the time there was mostly trying to find ways to kill time.

Don traded one of the geldings, Wizard, for a mare who will hopefully be a bit more useful as a school horse.  I didn't realize there was a new horse because the new mare is a pinto and looks a whole lot like Wizard.  She was in his stall, so when I went downt he aisle the first time after arriving, I just assumed it was him at first.  There was, however a sheet of notebook paper upon which someone had written 'Pretty as Pie' in pink and purple letters, on the front of the stall.

Sandy was in at that point, calling the folks in the classes she teaches to let them know what time their classes would be scheduled, so I asked her about the sign.  That's when I found out it wasn't Wizard in the stall, but a new mare.

Her name is Pretty Princess. (ugh!)  Nobody is willing to actually CALL her that though, so somehow she got the nickname 'Pie.'   I always thought of Pie as a more male nickname, but it's still better than Pretty Princess.  I'm not sure why she hasn't been flat out renamed, since we've renamed plenty of new horses.  Maybe she's actually a registered paint and not just a pinto and that's her 'official' name.

Anyway, she's a pretty friendly mare and seemed outgoing and curious to meet me when I went to check her out.
