Chunky

Looks like it's gonna be a grey stormy day today.  There are some very low clouds blowing in across Dulles out the window.  If I had a camera with me and one particularly grumpy looking cloud were a little to the left, behind the new control tower being built, it'd be kind of a neat shot.

I dunno why I was so dead and worn out last night.  The barnwork must've taken more out of me than usual.  Whoever was supposed to come in and work with Irina in the morning didn't show up, so there was a bit of extra work to do, though it wasn't all that much.

The horses came back from their vacation on Thursday and I was glad to see 'em again.  Sadly, not all of them came back.  Usually when one doesn't return, it's because Don decided to retire him/her.  Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for poor ol Chunky.  Don said he came out to find the fella laying dead in the field one morning.

This really surprised me.  Chunky was certainly no kid - he was in his late 20's - but he certainly showed no signs of anything being wrong lately.  He was a bright, friendly pony who acted more like a 5 or 6 year old.  I'll miss the old guy.

On a brighter note, when we turned the horses out at the end of the day, there was a lot of happy bouncing, bucking, and running about.  The time off from working really does have an effect upon the school horses.  Aside from coming back much rounder from all the grazing, they'er usually a lot more energetic and all around in good moods.
