TV memories
Nov. 13th, 2006 12:02 pmI recently got the box set of the old Ultraman series that used to be shown on UHF stations all over wayyyy back in ancient times (the 70's). That got me a bit nostalgic about the stuff I used to watch back in my formative years. At various points in my life, I remember coming home from school to watch:
Gilligans Island
Marine Boy
Speed Racer
Ultraman
Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot
...and many more.
Anyway, I guess this is as good an excuse as any to try my hand at embedded youtube links in a post. So here goes.
Good ol Ultraman. Mention the show to anyone who watched it and they'll invariably say something about the episode where Hiata tried to use a spoon instead of his beta capsule. I couldnt' find footage of that scene though so ya get this:
The DVD set was apparently made from the origina Japanese version of the show and contains stuff that wasn't in the US release. Because of that, every once in a while there will be a scene where there's no English dubbing and you hear the actors speaking Japanese with English subtitles. Interestingly, they even subtitle that little yell Ultraman does now and then and it shows up as "Schwaaa!"
Johnny Sokko seemed to be pretty limited in distribution in the US. I've only met a few folks who ever saw it. When I was 7, I thought this was the coolest show on tv:
