I guess I shouldn't be surprised
Apr. 7th, 2009 11:43 amI just read that a remake of the 1937 movie Topper is in the works. The article quoted the people behind it as saying how it needed 'major updates' and hadn't held up well. In this version, Topper will be a marriage counselor instead of a banker and will be played by Steve Martin.
While I know it's pretty much an axiom that Hollywood can't come up with anything original any more, but, jeez, some movies just shouldn't be remade. I don't really understand how a writer/producer/whatever can say that a movie is one of their favorites of all times, but that it needs to be totally rewritten and remade.
