People from the park came to the barn last week to take care of the tree that broke off in the storm. They cut up and removed the fallen portion. Upon inspecting the remaining section, they discovered a long crack down the still standing trunk. Leaving the tree standing would have eventually led to it breaking again and this time it would fall toward the barn. So they cut the tree down entirely. I took a couple phone camera pictures since, yet again, I hadn't brought a proper camera with me.

Without that big ol tree shading the front of the barn, the late morning and midday sun come right in the windows for the little front office, feed/med/tool room, and the restrooms. It glares right in your face if you're sitting at the desk in the front office. Some curtains are going to be in order.
I heard unofficially that the negotiations with the park are looking good and that the potential plan is for a second aisle of box stalls to be built in an extension added to the school horse side of the barn. In addition, the current standing stalls would be removed and replaced with box stalls. Since some of the wiring and such in the barn is not up to current code (the barn is somewhere around 40 years old), the renovation would mean that some electrical upgrades would have to be made. People are kind of hesitant to talk about it all for fear of jinxing things.
I imagine that if that kind of work was being performed, a temporary barn would have to be built, perhaps on the site of the old house, to house the horses during the construction. I really do hope it all goes through.
