Dusting

We got a light dusting of snow sometime during the night.  I doubt it's even a measurable amount.  It's snow, though, and as far as I know, the first we've gotten this winter.  It's a light, dry powder that is easily blown around.  It was kinda pretty seeing the parking lot and airport from the office window before dawn.

It's kinda neat to see the bigger jets take off across the street.  I'd have thought that by now they'd have eliminated any of the snow near the runways, but it's still there.  When one of the heavy jets takes off, it blows a big cloud of the stuff up into the air.  I guess it all settles back on the runway since the next time one takes off, the same thing happens all over again.  When the plane's nose lifts off the ground, the jet wash creates a big white rooster tail that's got to be 30 or 40 feet high.  It swirls around, nicely obscuring planes or vehicles on the taxiways for a bit, then settles on down.

Yesterday afternoon there were somewhere around 50 or 60 geese rummaging around in the grassy area between the office's back parking lot and Rt 28.  It's not unusual to see geese out there, but they're usually further down near a fountain and pond that's next to the hotel at the other end of the building.  That means they usually can't be seen from my window.  I'm not sure what brought them up to this end of the building, but it was neat to watch them for a bit.

I keep thinking I need to bring a camera in and keep it in the office for potential pictures when things like these happen.
