I've not been posting lately since A) I've had little worth posting and B) When I've had time to write a post, I've done other things to keep myself distracted in order to keep anxiety over the job situation take hold.  I figured I'd take a moment this morning though before things get hectic with end-of-contract mode in the next hour or so.

Yesterday was an unusual one at the barn.  To start with, Jirina is on vacation for the next 3 weeks, so others'll be filling in for her.  Sometimes that means things go faster, sometimes slower.  Zack was filling in for her yesterday and when I arrived, I was told we'd not be mucking the stalls as usual.  They'd been done quickly in the morning and would be done again properly Monday morning.  That was odd and the reason turned out to be the 2pm trail ride.

The ride'd been booked by The Real World.  I didn't even know that show was on any more, though now I recall hearing something about auditions for it in DC a couple years back.  It's still on and they are indeed shooting the DC stuff now.  We were told there'd be a minimal crew.  Apparently there are folks who love/hate the show that like to try to figure out where they're doing their thing.  They therefore like to keep a low-ish profile.

Anyhoo, I don't think anyone was terribly surprised that they arrived a bit late.  There were 3 actors or whatever the people in the show are officially called and 4 others.  2 of them were camera men, one on the ground and one on horseback. I'm surprised Sandy allowed the latter, but they guy apparently had (western) riding experience and had done a good bit of filming for other shows on horseback.  We were all a bit leery of exactly what to expect from the folks, but it turned out to be a fairly good experience.  The one I got up in the saddle and such, Mike I think his name was, had been on horses at some time and actually asked some sensible questions about English riding.  They went out on their ride, came back, shot some other footage with some horses and barn people, then left.

In other horse news, Firecracker survived his illness and is now officially retired.  He's still slightly ribby but looking pretty good.  The students voted him Horse of the Month for August with the main reason on the entries being "Because he didn't die."  He's a tough old horse and has, after all these years, decided that mares are good for more than just biting on the rump.  He spends his pasture time surrounded by 4 or 5 of the girls as well as a couple of his old gelding buddies from the old days.  It's good to be the king of the herd.
