Sunday was a day off for the horses.  They don't really get the long summer vacations of the past, but at least they do still get a little time off.

Sandy had called me on Friday to let me know of some changes.  Three of the school horses were gone.  Stella went back to the woman from which we got her in hopes of finding her a place where she could live and manage to stay sound.  Cappucino and Blackjack were also sent to her.  They're getting old and need to live somewhere where they can get some light work to keep 'em going.  It's sad to see them go, but hopefully they'll do better elsewhere.

On the bright side, there were three new horses in their place:

Casper, a fleabitten grey.  He seems friendly enough and is around 15 hands or so.  A good all-purpose size that's nice to have at a school barn.  He appears to be a talkative boy.

Goose, who appears to be either a light bay or even a darkish buckskin.  I couldn't tell very well as his stall is kind of dark and I didn't get to spend much time with him.  He was social, if a little wary from not knowing me.  Like Casper, he's around 15 hands.  Either his mane was growing out from being roached or he's one of those horses with a short donkeyish mane.  I suspect the latter

Doodle is a palomino pony.  He's a serious contender for taking the "Cutest Pony" title away from Pumpkin.  He's a little taller than Pumpkin, probably about Mickey's height, but is a very slender and has a downright pretty build. I'd almost say his face and head looked delicate.  He was pretty friendly and liked attention, though wanted to hurry and tried to pull me along when I led him from one stall to another.  If he works out, he'll be a great replacement for Cupcake, the little mare we used to have.

I pointed out that since we already have a horse named Maverick, that the addition of Goose puts us 2/3 of the way toward being able to call it a Top Gun barn.  All we need is a horse named Jester and we're set.  Then we could set up a net and let 'em play suggestively homo-erotic volleyball games...

There were a few slight blemishes on the day.  One was when we were turning 3 of the horses out into the pasture where the rest of the herd was.  Firecracker, Cascade and a few others were by the gate so I went in to shoo them off.  Cascade responded in typical equine fashion to a human waving his arms and making noises.  She turned and did a little buck and kick then ran off.  I was a bit closer to her than I should've been so that, while her kick didn't connect with me, the side of her hock did bonk against my forearm.  That left me with a scrape and sore arm.

When we ran the horses back in, Cowboy decided to go into Firecracker's stall. While I was leading him back into his own stall, he managed to step squarely on my foot.  Thank goodness for sturdy boots.

Finally, I managed to lose the lens cap to the lens I had on my camera.  That's a mild annoyance.  I don't have another that'll fit that lens, so it's either do without or pay for an overpriced replacement.
