And how I figured they must mean something? Well, it's just more proof of my amazing psychic powers. I was approached in the hallway by the benefits person, who is also the 'fire safety officer' or whatever for the floor and golly gee, I done got selected to be the new 'fire monitor' for my group. Basically that means I get to stay inside and burn up while making sure everyone else isn't hiding under their desk ignoring the fire alarm when it goes off. Whee! The old fire monitor for my area is leaving (*COUGHLAYOFFCOUGH*) so they needed a new one. I'm not sure why I'm the lucky one. Maybe it's that odd-man-out principle, since I'm in my 30's and single and stuff. Or maybe it's my ability to stay calm in an emergency. Or maybe I'm the most expendable. Prolly had a vote and everyone decided I'm the one they'd most like to see running around in flames. So it's either a great honor, or I've just been voted off the island.

'Course, there's no monetary perks, but hey, I get a little backpack with the emergency manual, a flashlight, first aid kit, and a pair of latex gloves. Now I'm ready for any emergency.

I wonder if I can write up my coworkers if I catch 'em without a hall pass...
