Because of the holidays, there weren't any trail rides at the barn on Sunday. Once I got there, the last of the morning staff left, leaving me to mind the stables for the rest of the day. Since the school horses that're regularly turned out on Sundays weren't working, they were turned out after they got their morning feed and the morning crew cleaned the stalls, leaving me with little to do other than answer the phones and handle the afternoon feeding and watering. That's not a ton of work, but it does take a bit of time nowadays, since a lot of the horses have special requirements (meds, supplements, etc). I underestimated the amount of time it was going to take, so I didn't close up and get outta there until later than I do on a normal Sunday.
The cool but sunny weather was nice and the horses in the pasture thought so, too. A number of them laid down and sunned themselves throughout the day. I decided to try to get some pictures of them. I hadn't thought to bring a camera with me, so I had to settle for the cellphone's crappy camera.
( Reclining horses )
I'm glad the herd got the day off. I kinda wish they could've been down on the grass pasture, but it's just not in good enough shape for them yet. Of course, if they had been down there, I'd probably have gotten a lot of calls and people stopping in to inform me about the 'dead horses' in our pasture. So many folk don't realize that horses do lie down sometimes.
