The barn was 'closed' on Sunday for Easter, which pretty much just means that there were no guided trail rides.  That meant a pretty light work day for me.  Aside from me, the only other people there most of the day were Carla, who is a regular rider and trail guide, and Zack, who, although young, works at the barn a few weeknights, is a trail guide, and one heck of a rider.

So much of the day was just rotating the school horses out into the small dirt pastures in groups of 2 or 3.  The two big grass pastures aren't yet ready for the herd to be out on 'em.  There was also some time spent answering questions and such for people who took advantage of a beautiful Sunday to see some horses.  One family had a little girl who was a bit scared.  In the past, I'd have brought out Mickey for her to meet, since he was such a gentleman.  Fortunately, Pumpkin seems to be able to fill the role of 'non scary pony' and the girl was soon petting his nose and touching his neck.

The best part of the day for me, though, was being able to actually ride again.  It's been over 2 years since I've been in the saddle but, with Carla and Zack's encouragement, I tacked up Cowboy and did a little work in the indoor ring.  It felt danged good, really.  I chose Cowboy, since he's an easygoing fella and I didn't really want to be aboard an advanced horse after so long.  Carla was probably exaggerating when she said I looked like I'd been riding regularly, but hey, I'll take any compliment I can get.  At the very least, I figure it means I wasn't doing horribly.

Sitting at a desk all day yesterday did mean that my legs ended up a bit sore and stiff from the ride.  It's a small price to pay for something that felt that good.

In totally unrelated news, my phone was in today's batch for upgrading to Android 2.1.  So now I can use animated wallpapers.  Woohoo!
