How Taxing
Apr. 14th, 2010 02:16 pmBah. So much for free filing of state taxes in Virginia. The state just passed a law so that online tax filing will be handled by private businesses.
For the record, the free online filing cost the state a little under $49,200 per year to maintain. The estimated cost to process paper tax forms is $1 per form, so it'll end up costing the state more, but of course, that cost'll get passed on to the taxpayers.
It won't affect me this year since I already did my taxes, but next year there'll be a fee to file them online. I guess it's back to paper forms.
