I've really come to dislike travel. Heck, in some cases, I've grown to hate it. Air travel in particular ranks high on my no-fun list.
I remember when I was a kid and going somewhere via plane was an adventure. It's not something that one did often and so it was kind of exotic. Of course back then, you got food and kids got all sorts of free toys and crap which made it even neater. In short, it was fun.
Nowadays it's usually, at the very least, a hassle. Even on short trips I worry about my geriatric cat when I'm away. For longer trips, I've considered a service to come in and check on her while I'm gone, but they aint cheap and Katie has a habit of hiding from strangers and not coming out if I'm not around. So I get to spend the time I'm away worrying about coming home to a sick or dead cat. I can't help it, I just worry about her.
One of the biggest pains involved in air travel is actually booking the flights. The best fares are almost always at the worst times for me to be traveling. This gets worse when it's travel for work and I have to arrange things to work with the schedules of others. I'm gonna have to make a work trip to Arizona in a couple weeks. The coworker who is also going already booked his flights. This trip is for an 8am meeting that'll last a few hours. The plan is to fly in the day before, pick up stuff from a subcontractor, do the meeting in the morning and return. The coworker doesn't want to take a redeye, so he's coming back the 15th. I'll be leaving the afternoon of the 14th. It took forever to find flights that arrived somewhere around the same time as his and didn't cost 11 zillion dollars. It turns out there are no rooms available anywhere down where the meeting is, because of some brilliant planning on the part of the Army down there. Fortunately, we found a place in Tombstone, 17 miles from the meeting, instead of having to stay in Tucson and get up really early to get to the meeting in time in the morning.
Fortunately, it's a short trip. But it'll be less than fun. This contract is the cause of the majority of stress in my life right now and one of the people who'll be there is likely to be downright hostile.
Owell. At least it's not all week.
