Another World of Warcraft related entry.
Every Thursday night for seven weeks we got together and made our way through the swamp to try to get her. Every week we failed, but we learned from each failure and got a little closer to the goal each time.
Last night, we finally killed Onyxia.
I realize that many groups on all the servers regularly farm Onyxia now, but this was our first success. Nobody in the group, save one or two, had even been in her Lair before the group was formed. None of us are in any of the big raiding guilds and though there is a core group in the raid, there have always been 10 or so slots to fill each week before going in.
We all agreed the person who had assembled and led the group should have the honor of taking her head. After the other loot she had was distributed (alas! no epic warrior items) we returned to Orgrimmar. As we ported back there, I pointed out over Ventrilo that we couldn't just turn the head in. It had to be done with style. While Goratory went in to speak to Thrall, I got the rest of the raid mounted and organized into ranks. With our mounts set to walk and with Goratory in the lead, we paraded through town and formed up in a large semicircle as Goratory did the second turn-in of the head.
It was great fun, and now that we've done it once, hopefully we'll be able to do it regularly. The group I'm in has a ton of fun, even when we fail. Even though we'll (hopefully) be taking her down weekly, there will be new faces in the group and I really dont' think it'll just be farming. We'll be joking and having fun and helping others learn how to fight Onyxia.
In the grand scheme of the game, last night was nothing special, but it sure meant a lot to those of us who finally got to defeat Onyxia.
